Where is Viagra Manufactured?

The well-known pharmacological company Pfizer was engaged in the development of Viagra active substance. The discovered component was supposed to be used in cardiology. But clinical studies have shown that the drug can be used to treat erectile dysfunction. Moreover, the drug solved intimate problems more successfully than cardiac problems.

Where is Viagra produced now?

The active ingredient sildenafil citrate was immediately patented, and at the end of the patent term, the production of Viagra was replicated in different parts of the world. Pharmacological enterprises were able to produce Sildenafil by proprietary technology. But one restriction remains - only Pfizer has the right to use the trade name Viagra. The generic manufacturers give other names for products.

Most often, you can see the sale of generic Viagra made in India. This state is distinguished by the richest resources and cheap labor. In the middle of the last century, Western manufacturers built ultramodern plants in India. They are:

  • Sunrise Remedies;
  • Fortune Health Care;
  • Emkay;
  • Euphoria Healthcare;
  • Cadila Healthcare;
  • Centurion Laboratories.

These companies today produce up to 75% of drugs sold worldwide.

The history of Viagra creation

Apparently, Viagra was developed from the very beginning as a remedy for sore throat. Men of the whole world should be grateful to the inhabitants of the city of Wales Merthyr Tydfil. In 1992, in the process of testing, an excellent side effect of Viagra was discovered.

At the turn of the century, the inventors discovered a means that futurologists didn’t even have a chance to dream about. The names of the scientists who discovered the role of nitric oxide in the development and maintenance of normal erection are now known to all - Robert F. Furchgott, Ferid Murad and Luis Ignarro.

The invention of Viagra was apparently the third greatest "accidental" discovery in medicine. In the autumn of 1998, the Nobel Prize award was also given to scientists who, among other things, discovered Viagra.

The history of "Viagra" began in 1992 in England, in the town of Sandwich, in the process of pharmacological research. Scientists have conducted clinical trials of a new medical substance — Sildenafil Citrate, which was developed as a remedy for treating a number of cardiac dysfunctions.

The inventors hoped that sildenafil citrate would help increase blood flow to the cardiac muscle and lower blood pressure. Although it was noted that sildenafil citrate does not have a significant impact on the blood circulation in the cardiac muscle (myocardium), or on blood pressure.

Along the way, it was found that many male patients who participated in the study refuse to return the tablets of sildenafil, despite the end of the test. The reason for refusal was a great improvement in the quality of erections. So, despite the minimal effect of the new agent on the circulation in the myocardium, sildenafil caused noticeable blood flow to the male genitals.

Scientists of the pharmacological company Pfizer reacted to this unexpected property of sildenafil citrate with due attention and were able to recognize in it a powerful means for fighting the symptoms of erectile dysfunction. The new drug was named Viagra - the name was born as a result of the merging of the words "Vigor" (power, energy, power) and Niagara - the most powerful waterfall in North America.

Since 1993, long-lasting clinical trials have begun required to prove Viagra properties. Due to such tests, the high efficiency and safety of Viagra for the treatment of erectile dysfunction have been confirmed. As a result, the US Department of Food and Drug Administration approved Viagra for sale on March 27, 1998.
